Hi, guys —
I have a Palm Sunday question.
- Why do we celebrate the Palm Sunday Mass with one of the readings of the Passion?
I believe that Palm Sunday recognizes the exalted entry of Jesus into Jerusalem with the spreading of the palm fronds (branches and cloaks) before Him. (Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-44, and John 12:12-15) Of course, the tragic events were soon to follow.
We will again read a version of the Passion during the celebration of Holy Week. This question is in no way intended to take away from the beauty and sadness of the Passion.
It is just a question. I am on the old side but as a young person, I vaguely remember that we once read a Palm Sunday passage.
Thank you,
Woodrow
