Hi, guys —

  • Why haven't the priests said any prayers during any of the Masses in any of the churches like,

Lord, hear our prayers for the shootings in the schools in Texas?

Eric replied:

Dear Phillip,

I'm not sure how you know that this hasn't been done in "any of the churches" unless you personally verified this for each church in the country or in the world. I suspect you haven't done that.

Notwithstanding that, I personally have heard it prayed during the Prayer of the Faithful in the parish I attend. So this complaint of yours may be isolated to the parishes you have visited.

There is no central authority for determining which prayers are prayed during the Prayer of the Faithful. It's up to each individual church. If you want to know why a particular parish has not prayed it, your only recourse is to ask the pastor, whose responsibility it ultimately falls under.

Eric
