Dear friend,

Thanks for the question.  

It is not a serious offense, though you may have suffered some embarrassment.  

Don't worry about it at all. No one will hold it against you and you shouldn't let something so trivial hold you back from going to church.  If there are reasons to choose a different parish that are truly substantive, then by all means go there; but if this parish is good, stick with it.

The pastor was only trying to put you at ease and his "laughing it off" doesn't mean He is not a serious or holy man.  We need to be able to laugh at ourselves once in a while (even if it should be in Holy Mass).
