Hi, guys —

I am not a baptized Roman Catholic though my mother was. I am a baptized and confirmed Episcopalian (Anglican Catholic).

I have my mother's Rosary, and even though Anglican Catholics have a Rosary, too, (without the prayers to Mary, as they see that as blasphemous and idolatrous, . . . which I do not), I would like to pray the Roman Catholic Rosary on my mother’s Rosary however, a person who is a baptized Roman Catholic told me it would be considered sinful or disrespectful for me, a non-Roman Catholic, to pray the Roman Catholic Rosary. She told me,

“Our Eucharist, our prayers, our Baptism, our comfort from Christ, are reserved for only true, good, Roman Catholics.”

My mother died decades ago, quite young, so I can't ask her. I want to pray the Rosary but I don't want to be disrespectful to anyone.

  • Is it true that God only wants prayers from baptized Roman Catholics?  or can others pray to Mary and Jesus too?
  • Is praying on a Roman Catholic Rosary limited to baptized Roman Catholics?

Eric replied:

Helen,

It would not at all be disrespectful!

In fact, it would be salutary. Pray away!

Eric
