Jason Abhiram wrote:

Hi, John —

Thank you for your answer on the Freemason society.

To further clarify the first question, from the Church's point of view:

  • Who am I?
  • Why am I here?
  • Why am I me?

With thanks,

Jason

  { Who am I? — Why am I here? — and Why am I me? }

Mary Ann replied:

Jason —

You are a child of God, made to know, love, and serve Him in this world, so that you may be happy with Him in the next.

Mike replied:

Hi, Jason —

I just wanted to follow-up on my colleagues answer.

You said:

  • Why am I here?

Every person is born into this world for a specific purpose in life. That purpose is to:

  • know God
  • serve God
  • and be with God in this life and the world to come.

We can know God:

  • by reason with our God-given brain and
  • by religious studies, especially the Revelation of Our Lord Jesus Christ and His One Church.

We can serve God by:

  • seeing Him in others that we meet
  • helping them and
  • discerning our specific calling in life.

Only the individual can [determine|discern] what their calling is:

  • a teacher
  • a painter
  • a doctor
  • a dentist
  • a software engineer
  • a priest
  • a policeman
  • a scientist
  • a military man in the Armed Services
  • or whatever

A parent can't do it for the child nor can anyone else. Yes, they can encourage and suggest a vocation, especially if they note their child has a special interest in a particular subject, but only the child can make there own career choice.

The question that has to be answered by each individual is easy:

  • What career vocation:
    1. would I enjoy doing in my life
    2. that I am also  skilled in?

If we know the Lord and serve Him appropriately, we can, and will, be with him in the Next Life.

Remember men and women have immortal souls, not just mortal [earthly] souls, as animals do.

If you are confused about this, check out my Christian Basics page.

You said:

  • Why am I me?

You are you, apart from others, so you can fulfill your specific purpose in life.

Hope this helps,

Mike
