Anne Houseman wrote:

Hi, guys —

I use birth control not because I am sexually active, I'm still a virgin; but because I have a condition called PCOS. My hormones are basically all messed up and I need the pill to ovulate.

I feel compelled to give up the pill because I know how the Catholic Church feels about it, but at the same time my body needs to be fixed.

  • What should I do?
  • if I don't give up birth control, can I still be a Catholic?

Anne

Paul replied:

Dear Anne,

Although it would not be immoral to use hormonal medications to heal a pathology such as yours when the person is not sexually active, there are medications other than the pill that can help you that are not as polluting to your body.

An organization that specializes in this area is the Pope Paul VI Institute, found at: https://www.popepaulvi.com.

Do check this web site out and contact them with your questions.

Peace,

Paul
