Hi, guys —

I am a practicing Catholic and I have a nephew who is not a Catholic that just passed away.
His parents are having him cremated and would like to toss the ashes.

I had a disturbing dream where a priest said he should be buried so he could crossover. It is weighing heavy on my heart to the point that I believe he should be buried.

My brother (father of my nephew) was baptized Catholic but left the Church. I told him about my dream and that I felt it was a sign that he needed to be buried. I know that as Catholics we are to be buried and I am not sure what else I can do to change his mind.

  • How do I take part in the tossing of my nephew's ashes when I know it is not right but don't wish to hurt my brother's feelings?

Dear Annette,

This is a common question; it's even in our searchable knowledge base.
There are a lot of quick answers there, so give it a try.

I've search the database for you and think these postings should answer most of your questions.
If not, just come back and follow-up.

We don't address issues dealing with people's dreams. For those issues, we recommend you talk to your local pastor or Confessor, the next time you go to Confession.

The passing of a loved one can be a tough time within a family. I would encourage you to strive to keep a unity among remaining family members, even if you perceive them making poor choices or decisions.

Both my parents passed away and I could tell both my brothers and I tried to be sensitive to the issues each other had.

You will want that family friendship among your siblings in the future rather than a broken relationship which, at best, can be hard to mend.

Mike
